Tennis and Russia Star Maria Sharapova has been banned from the game by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) due to failing the drug test.

The reason for the failed drugs test is because of a heart disease drug which the athlete had been taking since 2006 where as, this drug (Meldonium) became a banned substance on the 1st of January, 2016.

The five time Grand Slam Winner said she was unaware the drug had been added to the banned list and besides, she knew the drug by another name called “Mildronate”.

The ITF said Sharapova was the cause of her misfortune as she did not bother to check whether continued usage of the drug was allowed by the federation.
